What I read the summer of 2018…

Tara Cousineau, PhD, The Kindness Cure

“Feeling connected, supportive, and supported means stepping beyond momentary comfort and taking risks to reach out.  To be kind means you must cross relational space between yourself and others, which is filled with uncertainty.”

Karen Maezen Miller, Hand Wash Cold: Care Instructions for an Ordinary Life

Karen Maezen Miller looks at daily life – from doing the laundry, cooking, cleaning and gardening – as a metaphor for the spiritual life.  “The point of meditation is to stop making things up and see thanks as they are.”  Page 39

Louis Richmond, Aging as a Spiritual Practice

A beautiful reflection on the spiritual side of growing older, Louis Richmond, a Zen Buddhist priest, looks at the common fears of aging from a spiritual perspective.  “She left behind being a victim of change and became an agent of change.” Page 55

Thich Nhat Hanh, Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise

In his beautiful and simple style, Thich Nhat Hanh invites his readers to find silence and to still Radio NST (non-stop thinking).
